I think the answer is good advertising, and cheap.
Maybe I am wrong but many people use them to upload to video sites, the quality of the videos there is far from great, having editied video from this type of "camcorder" and put it on both DVD and Blue Ray, and the results have been just ok not great.
If light is good and there is not too much background noise then they can give a reasonable result, but they are not desingned for serious video, more like for someone who just wants to point and shoot, and have some fun.

Preceisely the reason why the are cheap. Certainly a "You get what you pay for" scenario, and since the Flip etc has spotted a cliche in the camcorder market by offering a peanuts camcorder for someone who wants to have fun and enjoy themselves.
